Jay Scott Zwerling, 43, passed away Friday night at NYU Medical Center after a long illness. Even while waging his courageous battle against kidney cancer, Jay's indomitable spirit and love of family and friends continued to define a life well lived. Born February 25, 1967, beloved son of Ben and Sheila Zwerling, devoted husband to Lisa A. (Parente) Zwerling and adoring father to Jake Scott Zwerling. Jay is predeceased by maternal grandparents, Jack and Silva Rosen and paternal grandparents Sonia and Max Zwerling. Jay was born in Riverdale, NY and moved to Rockland County in 1973. He attended Rockland Country Day School, University of Albany and earned a JD at Cardozo Law School. Jay worked as an Equipment Finance Attorney for the past 15 years where he specialized in Aircraft Financing. He was an active volunteer in the JCC, Pearl River Little League and the Orangetown JewishCenter. Jay was an accomplished runner and completed the NYC Marathon in 2008. Jay also leaves behind, brother, Mark Zwerling and sister in law Jill Zwerling of Suffern, NY, sister in law, Maria Passalacqua and brother in law Andrew J. Passalacqua of Clifton, NJ, brother in law Nicola Parente and sister in law Kristine Parente of Hoboken, NJ. He was also beloved Uncle to niece Nicole Passalacqua, nephew Nick Thomas Parente, Patrick Joseph Parente, Brendan Michael Parente, Stephen Zwerling, Zachary Zwerling and Matthew Zwerling. Jay also leaves behind mother in law, Dolores Montroy of Nanuet, NY and father in law Nicola Parente and his wife Phyllis Parente of Venice, FL.
