Herring, James M.

James M. Herring, died Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Nyack Hospital. Jim was born March 28, 1934 in the Roseville section of West Haverstraw. He graduated from Immaculate Conception School and Haverstraw High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Edythe "Dee" Nelson. Jim worked in construction for Laborers' Union Local 754 and then in the carpentry shop at Letchworth Village. Following his retirement, he became an active member of the Stony Point Senior Citizens. He enjoyed traveling and trips to the casinos. He especially enjoyed playing pool with the guys and lunches at Hogan's with "the gang."

His wife, Dee, his brothers, John, Stephen, and William, and his sister, Loretta Delasandro, predecease him. His sister, Mary Gatti, sisters-in-law, Olive Herring and Elizabeth (Fred) Nitko, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews survive him.

Visiting hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 16 and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 17 at the Edward Finn Funeral Home. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18 at Immaculate Conception Church in Stony Point. Interment will follow at Mt. Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw.
