Dorothy A. Burch, our beloved aunt of over 55 years lost her valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease on October 4, 2011. She was born in Del Norte, CO, on August 6, 1931 and is predeceased by her mother Emily Schuler Burch and father John Thomas Burch.
She leaves her beloved and devoted nieces, Evva Jeanne Burch Morgan of Newburgh, NY and Deborah Louise Burch Vadala of Warwick, NY. She also leaves behind her brother John Roger Burch of Roanoke Rapids, NC and her nieces, Marcia Claire Burch of FL, Laura Dorothea Burch Chiavarou of FL, Beth-Ellan Burch of Roanoke Rapids, NC, and Elizabeth Burch Barry of Front Royal, VA. She also leaves behind many grandnieces and grandnephews and great grandnieces and nephews.
Dorothy attended Blauvelt Public School (1945) and graduated from Nyack High School (1949) and Barnard College (1953) with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She retired from New York State Teacher's Association in 1995. Dorothy loved to travel, read, opera, Broadway and all the arts. Dorothy lived in Rockland County for most of her life, recently in Nyack, before moving to Orange County to be near her beloved nieces. Dorothy volunteered for years at the Nyack Library and Historical Society. She was a faithful member of the Friends of Nyack and the Greenbush Presbyterian Church in Blauvelt where she sang in the Choir for many years. Dorothy will be missed by all who knew her.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, 11am, at the Greenbush Presbyterian Church in Blauvelt followed by a private cremation. Visiting hours will be Friday, 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenbush Presbyterian Church, 614 Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY 10913.
