Daniel Sullivan Obituary
Dan Sullivan of Stony Point, died suddenly on October 31, 2011. He passed away peacefully at the side of Nora, his beloved wife of 37 years.
If you were fortunate to know Dan, you knew the beautiful person that he was. He valued life and lived it to the fullest. He found joy in the everyday and was happiest when he shared that joy with others. His exuberance for living, combined with his good looks, a great sense of humor and a caring, gentle and kind nature made him the truly special person he was.
He would want to be, and will be, most remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, brother and friend.
Dan was a graduate of Albertus Magnus High School and Dominican College of Blauvelt where he was an all-round athlete and County basketball stand out. He always made friends easily and developed several close friendships that have lasted decades. For the majority of his professional life, he was the successful owner of an Allstate Insurance Agency in New City , NY .
He has many interests. He loved North Carolina beaches, Jimmy Buffet, going out with his family and was an avid golfer.
He met his future wife Nora while in high school and the two have shared a close and loving relationship throughout their long and beautiful marriage. Dan so loved and took such pride in their three children, Donna, Danny and Alana, and held a special place in his heart for Christopher Daniel, the son they lost in childbirth.
Dan leaves behind so many whose life will be forever change by his passing: his wife Nora (Minard); his children Donna, Danny and Alana, his brothers; Gene (Eileen), Chris (Lisa) and James (Kathy); and his sister Maureen. He is predeceased by his brother Jack and his parents John Vincent and Mary Jessica (Hartigan) Sullivan. Dan also leaves behind his sisters and brothers in law, his many nieces and nephews and close friends.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday from 7-9pm and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm at the T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home GARNERVILLE. Dan's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's R.C. Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. Donation's may be made in his memory to The St. Jude Foundation or The Make-A-Wish Foundation.

To the Sullivan family,
I am still in a bit of shock. I just called the office to go over my policy renewal, just as I have done with Dan for the last 20 years or so. To say I am saddened by the terrible news is an understatement. My heartfelt sympathies to you all on your loss.

Nora and family I am so sorry for your loss. The last time I saw you and Danny was at the Hudson House in Nyack. We hadn't been in touch for so long but you both looked so happy and didn't change at all. You both shared your memories of Kathy which was so sweet of you. Oh God, how do I express what I am feeling. I can't believe our very special Danny Boy is gone. Heaven just got the most beautiful addition. I so remember when I first met Danny. He was 7 years old when I came from Ireland and lived with the Sullivans. He was the most handsome boy with sparkling blue eyes. Even then he was always smiling. I got dressed up for St. Patrick's Dance and when Danny saw me he whistled and said wow Mary you look sexy. This out of a 7 year old. He always knew how to make everyone feel good. He would sit with me on the stoop in the Bronx and listen to my transistor radio (a real big deal in 1962). Nora, my heart breaks for you and the children. The love you both shared was so obvious to anyone who knew you. He was such a devoted husband,father and son. How Mary loved her special lunches with him. I could go on and on . When you are up to it we will talk. May God and His Blessed Mother comfort all of you. Love you.

I was/am saddened of the news of Dan's passing. Though he was a year behind me in AM, and I would only see him every 5 years or so at some alumni function or just in passing when I was in the "County" - Dan was always quick to remember my name and a warm hello. That always amazed me about Dan - he was one of the rare good guys!

Oh Nora, I am so sorry. I have not seen either of you in ages, but I have thought of you and just recently found snapshots I took at your wedding. You two were always the BEST. Every time I have ever thought of Danny, he is smiling and laughing, and I can still hear and see him telling me how when he raised his face to the sun it made him sneeze. And then he would do it, sneeze, and burst out laughing. Hope that memory made you smile for a minute :-)

Nora, Danny, Alana & Donna.....What I'm feeling right now is so difficult to put into words. I can't express how shocked & devastated I am to hear of Dan's passing. I have such incredible memories of the way he embraced our family & made us feel welcome when we first came to GW. He was always so supportive of Brad & always found the kindest words when they were most needed.
He was one of the most genuine people I've ever known. I simply enjoyed being in his presence to share his joy of life & people. He was very caring & giving of himself & just so much fun to be around. I am truly blessed for having been able to call him my friend. I cherish our times together at GW baseball games & our wonderful reunions.
His absence will leave a void in the lives of all he was in contact with and, of course, a deep hole in the hearts of his remarkable family. We have kept all of you in our thoughts & prayers.
Susan, Brad, Brian & I sincerely express our deepest condolences to each of you. May Dan's memory be for a blessing.

To all Dan's loved ones,
When we moved to Rockland Co over 25+ years, Dan was the first person we met and welcome us to the county. He became our insurance agent and a friend that day and remained both since. I know to lose such a great husband, dad, brother and friend is not fair so please know our wish for you all is to hope you can find some peace and strength in your memories and blessings of such a good man. Oh Dan, I couldn't believe it when I heard the sad news. My heart just sank. You were such a wonderful, sweet and very funny guy. I always enjoyed talking with you when I would stop by to pay my car insurance. Your love for your family and everything going on in their lives was a joy to share with you. Dear Sullivan Family, I am truly saddened by Dan's sudden passing. I send you my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. I met Dan in the 1970s. He became our insurance agent and still is! I loved talking to him. He was always so appreciative of his wife and children. I will venture to say that among all the members of the GWU baseball family, Dan was our unquestioned leader. Never without a smile, encouraging words, or a toast to victory. He was a tailgater of the highest order & worried about fellowship first and never hesitated to pick up a tab. He loved our son Josh like his own. We traveled and celebrated together from Miami to New Orleans to the Bronx. I always looked forward to his humor, warmth, and spirit. He was a force of nature, the likes of which will be sorely missed.

I cried like a baby in the doctor's office today. I never read those darn obituaries... but today I did, I couldn't believe my eyes... my heart sank and I cried out loud as I read of the passing of my dear friend Danny Sullivan. He was my first crush in 8th grade, my insurance agent and just a great great guy. I'll miss him SO much...
May God comfort his family and give them strength at his sad time.

It is just too hard to believe that our friend Danny is gone. He always had a kind word and that beautiful smile and personality.
