Hibbard, William V.

William V. Hibbard, Sr., a lifelong resident of Yonkers, N.Y. died on November 28, 2012. He was 93. The son of Joseph and Mary Hibbard, William served during WWII from Sept. 1942 until Sept. 1945 with the U.S. 9th Air Force as a Staff Sergeant with Carrier Squadron 61st Troop Group as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 13th, 1946. Mr. Hibbard took place in the Normandy Invasion and returned to France in 1994 for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of D-Day. William was employed by Consolidated Shipbuilding NYC as an ironworker, also worked for Treasure Chest China Company and for many years with the U.S. Post Office. In his retirement years he worked part-time for the city of Scarsdale Recreation Dept. at Brite Ave. Tennis Courts. On his 90th birthday at a party surrounded by family and friends, at Tara's Restaurant in Yonkers, he was honored by the City of Yonkers which proclaimed Oct, 9th, 2009 as William Hibbard Day. He also was a life member of VFW Post 3083 and the Catholic Widowers and Widows club. William was the beloved husband for 38 years of the late Margaret Smith Hibbard and loving father of Maureen D'Apice of Tomkins Cove N.Y., Kathyrn Forcelli of Yorktown Heights N.Y., Michael Hibbard of Portland, OR and Bill Hibbard Jr. of Ben Lomand, CA; his sons-in-law Francis D'Apice, Anthony Forcelli and daughter in law Sanda Hibbard. He was the dear grandfather of Kimberly Grace, Christine Michel, Pamela Larsen, Joseph and Michael Forcelli; Michele Hibbard, Michael Hibbard Jr. and Samuel Hibbard; and 9 great-grandchildren. William is also survived by his sister Veronica of Port St. Lucie, FL; his long-time companion Norma Koller, and numerous nieces and nephews. William was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Jack and Robert and his sisters, Florence, Gertrude, and Elizabeth, and his great grandson Daniel Hibbard. Visiting at the Flynn Memorial Home, today, Friday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 PM. Funeral Mass at St. Anthony's Church on Saturday at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
