O'Connell, Maurice V.

Maurice V. O'Connell was born on Dec. 12, 1931 in Bronx, NY, where he was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish. He proudly served our country during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal of Honor. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He had worked for the government in New York City and is a retired employee of the County Court House in New City, NY. Taking his annual trip to Jamaica with his wife, Theresa brought him much enjoyment, so much that they vacationed there over 30 times. Above all, he was truly proud of his family's successes and grateful to be a part of the journey.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 57 years, Theresa; a son, Daniel O'Connell, DDS (Jane); a daughter, Theresa Dwyer (Daniel); a granddaughter, Claire O'Connell; a grandson, Kyle O'Connell; and a step granddaughter, Brigid Dwyer. A sister, Eileen Maloney and a brother, Daniel O'Connell also survive him. He is predeceased by his son, Robert.

Family will receive visitors on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack, NY on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at 10am. Burial will follow immediately at Frederick Loescher Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Spring Valley, NY between Route 306 and Union Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the N.Y. State Veterans Home, 2090 Albany Post Road, Montrose, NY 10548.
