Onody, Arthur

Arthur Onody, 77 years old, of New City, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2013. He was born on February 5, 1936 in Ridgewood (Queens) New York. He is predeceased by his parents Lawrence and Sophie Onody and his brother Lawrence and sister-in-law Doris. Arthur worked as a police officer for 26 years for the New York City Police Department (34th Precinct). He also worked as a school bus driver for 40 years for Haverstraw Transit and most recently for Peter Brega. Arthur was an active and dedicated member of the following police organizations: the NYPD PBA, the Rockland County Shields, the NYPD Pulaski Association, he was acting Sergeant of Arms of the Fraternal Order of Police, and former President of the Hudson Valley 10-13. He was a dedicated leader and member of the (BPOE) Haverstraw, Parents without Partners and the Knights of Columbus. Arthur was a long time parishioner of St. Augustine's church.

Arthur is survived by his sons and their wives; Michael J. and Kathleen M., Gary and Rochelle, Patrick and Margaret. Arthur was also the proud grandfather of his 9 grandchildren; Sean, John, Caitlin, Christina, Torin, Andrew, Kathryn, Jacklyn and Bryan, as well as his great-granddaughter Gabriella. His wonderful smile and giving attitude will be missed by his nieces and nephews, Carol, Laura, Stephen, and Russell. He is survived by his former wife Marilyn and daughter-in-law Caroline. He will also be missed by many of his former co-workers and many dear friends he left behind. He will be greatly missed by his constant companion and loving dog Mandy.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday, February 27th and Thursday, February 28th 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, March 1st at 10am at St. Augustine's Church in New City. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to either the Make a Wish Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project in Arthur's memory.
