Viertl, Herbert M.

Herbert M. Viertl of White Plains died suddenly on February 25th, 2013 at the age of 65. He was born in N.Y.C. on April 12th, 1947 to Hans and Olga Viertl. Herb grew up in New Rochelle and attended Fordham Preparatory School, followed by graduation from Georgetown University and M.B.A., New York University. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1969. He married Eva Marie Polzer on April 18th, 1970. Herb worked for Chase Manhattan Bank, Dunn & Bradstreet, and Reuben H. Donnelly as controller until 1992, and became president of O.A.S. in Dobbs Ferry. Recently he had been employed at H&R Block in Port Chester. Herb was a member of Westchester Hills Golf Club for many years and of the American Legion in White Plains. Herb was the proud father of Nicole Viertl-Brown, son-in-law Michael A. Brown, and was very excited to be expecting his first grandchild in March. He is also survived by his brother John Viertl, Ph.D. and sister-in-law Moya Viertl, of Niskayuna, NY, niece, Elizabeth Beckwith of Phoenix, AZ, and nephew, Dr. George Viertl of Salisbury, MD. A memorial service celebrating Herb's life will be held at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home at 491 Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains (914) 949-7777 on Friday, March 8th from 3-7 p.m. On April 12th, internment will be held at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye.
