Walter C. Brower Jr., 82, of Pennington, NJ, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013. Born on November 19, 1930 in Port Chester, NY. Mr. Brower was a son of the late Walter C. Brower and Mary Radcliffe Brower. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Logan Brower, he was blessed with two children, Kurt W. Brower of Weston, CT, and Bonnie Brower Meyer of Madison, NJ; and six grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Elizabeth Brower Waugh of Kingston, NY.
He graduated from Bellows High School 1948. During high school, he played football, basketball and ran track. In November 1950, he joined the Navy Reserves and in April of 1952 he was sent to active duty as a submarine patrol on USS Kula Gulf aircraft carrier and then he was honorably discharged in April of 1954. He attended NYU, Columbia and graduated from Rutgers University. He worked for three different companies in his lifetime; American Cyanamid, Stauffer Chemical Company and Mobil Oil Corporation. One of the things he enjoyed most in his work was the ability to travel. He went to the Arctic Circle and worked in the North Sea.
He was an active member of the American Association of Cost Engineers where he also served as President and was the Master Councilor of The Order of DeMolay. Walter was an avid golfer having achieved a hole in one and also enjoyed bowling and curling. In his retired years, one of his favorite things to do was to visit friends, children and grandchildren. He also loved to watch his grandchildren's sports events where he was an avid fan.
Walter was a kind, generous, loving, smart and humorous, but those are only a few of the traits which make him so special to family and friends. He will be lovingly remembered for his dedication to his family.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 7th from 7-9 PM and Friday, March 8th from 8:30AM - 9:30 AM at the Madison Memorial Home 159 Main St., Madison, NJ 07940. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 8th at 10AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 4 Madison Ave., Madison, NJ 07940. Internment will take place on Saturday March 9 at 11AM at the Greenwood Union Cemetery, 215 North St., Rye, NY. Contributions to his memory may made to
