Johnson, Carol W.
The Guest Book is expired.
Carol Johnson, 75, died peacefully at home in Rye on May 31st, 2013.
Born Carol Anne White on December 20th, 1937 at Lennox Hill Hospital to William and Mae White, Carol attended Milton School and graduated from Rye H.S. in 1955. She married Frank E. Johnson on September 6th, 1958 at Resurrection Church.
Carol enjoyed deep personal and professional attachments to Rye. She was active in the Rye Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary, was a lifelong parishioner of Resurrection Church, and was in the employ of the City for the better part of 40 years. Hired as a stenographer while the current City Hall was under construction in 1963, Carol ultimately served 17 years as secretary to the City Manager before retiring in 2003.
Before and after a 10 year detour to Concord, CA precipitated by Frank's career with BP, Carol lived in a variety of places in Rye. In early 1990's they built a house in her childhood neighborhood. Fittingly, she passed away within 100 yards of the Fenton St. house in which she was raised, completing the circle of a Rye life well lived.
Carol will be remembered for the genuine kindness and soft-spoken gentility which characterized her interactions with family, friends, and the citizens she served.
Carol was predeceased by her sisters Constance W. Ball and Jeanne W. West. She is survived by her loving husband Frank and 14 nieces and nephews including Barbara B. McHugh (Balston Lake, NY), Corinne B. Weber (Harrison, NY), W. David Ball (Fairfield, CT), Diane B. Brendel and Andrew C. Ball (Rye), Mary Ann West (Westport, CT), Peter D. West (Stamford, CT), Philip W. West (Fairfield, CT), Robert Schwake (Pompton Plains, NJ), Ann Marie Glinka (The Woodlands, TX), Doris Cicoria (Denville, NJ), Carol Dwyer (Etowah, NC), Susan Lowe (Fresno, CA), and Lorraine Adriansen (Littleton , CO) and a bevy of grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday 6/13 at Graham's Funeral Home from 4-8pm. A funeral mass will follow on Friday 6/14 at Resurrection Church at 10am.
