Joseph E. Fay entered his eternal rest on November 21, 2013. He was born in Harlem (NYC) to Rosina (Cossa) and Giuseppe Fiorito on December 25, 1923. He was a graduate of Power Memorial Academy, Packard Jr. College, and New York School of Embalming and Restorative Art, he had been a licensed funeral director for 54 years, with Riverside Memorial Chapels and Frank E. Campbell Chapel. Brother Joe has been a dedicated member of the Order Sons of Italy in America for 55 years and held numerous positions in his filial lodge, the New York Grand Lodge and the Supreme Lodge. In 1975 he became NYS Grand Venerable (State President). Later he served as Supreme Trustee, National Treasurer, Supreme Deputy to Connecticut; Rhode Island, and Supreme Deputy for sixteen years to New Jersey. In 2009 he was appointed NJ Supreme Deputy Emeritus. He was the recipient of the Order's highest commendation the Dr. Vincenzo Sellaro Award, NYS Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, the State's highest commendation the Bene Emeritus Award. Joe was inducted to the National Italian American Hall of Fame, and received the Columbus Citizens Foundation's Man of Distinction Award. He was also knighted Grand Master with Collar in the Military Order of St. Andrew of Caffa (Italy), Knight of Malta, Order of St. John; later he became a Cavillere in the Order of Savoy.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, John and Anthony, and sister, Marie, spouses, Mildred Gandek Fiorito and the late Evelyn Klein-Feldman Fay, and stepson, Ronnie. He is survived by his loving daughter, Louise Fiorito; dear friend, Lucy Codella; brother-in-law, Jerry Klein; two stepsons, Allan and Bruce Feldman, and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10028 Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Monastery Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY 10703 on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Joseph E. Fay Scholarship Fund, NYS OSIA Foundation, 2101 Bellmore Ave., Bellmore, NY 11710.
