He graduated from Seward Park High School at the age of 15, and then pursued a degree in mechanical engineering at New York University while working part-time at his father's company, The National Boiler Parts Company. After graduating from NYU in 1940 at the age of 22, Hyman and his fiancé, Rebecca Cohen, married in Manhattan and shortly later followed a job opportunity in Worcester, MA at The Riley Stoker Corp. As an engineer at Riley, he designed a power plant for the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. His skill was quickly noticed by the United States Department of the Army, and was recruited to join and ultimately direct research, development and engineering at Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, NJ. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Eric) Efron of Helotes, TX, and his son and daughter-in-law, Laurence and Sharon Rutkovsky and his granddaughter, Carly, and their two Havanese dogs Leo and LuLu whose weekly visits Hyman enjoyed so much.
