What an open heart and great mind. Dr. Ahern taught me to view myself and the world with compassion and humor.
How very kind was his essence! After the birth of his grandchild I said, "You've grabbed the brass ring, you have it all and he answered, "I certainly do!".
With much gratitude for 16 years of care, Marcia Tammi

I have very fond memories of teaching at Xavier with Geary as a fellow Jesuit in Training. I regret our paths diverged and wished we could have collaborated. My condolences to Chris and the family.

My Uncle Geary was a little bit of "everyone's" Uncle. In the way he has of making each person feel that his attention is on and with them, no matter what else.
He taught me to question and to have faith. He taught me to laugh at myself when I most self-absorbed, he helped me find my way through heartache (both real and perceived) and he always let me know that I was one of a kind and that it was perfect to be so. What he helped instill in me is the sense that EACH of us is perfect at all times. If I can bring that light into the world a little more with his guidance from the heavens, I'll be grateful.
Chris, Mary, Ellen, Jonah - so much love in my heart for each of you -- peace and prayers.

My sincere condolences to Dr. Ahern's family and friends. He was my doctor for almost 14 years and helped me greatly to deal with many difficult issues. Throughout the years, he always knew what to say with words that gave comfort but still stayed with the truth. I will miss his intelligence, compassion and humor.

Dr. Ahern helped me get through some very difficult and confusing years and somehow gave me the confidence I needed to get to the other end. I will never forget the comforting image of him sitting in his rocking chair and taking notes and listening and always saying the right things. So sorry to Mary and Christopher whom I never got the pleasure to meet but must be very special people.

Geary was a colleague and trusted friend since I met him in 1978. I was a first year resident, and he was a third year. He was always brilliant, able, compassionate, and kind. He said I had a positive transference. It's true. I do, and always will. But what I believe is also true. Our heartfelt condolences to his dearest Mary and beloved Christopher. And if there is anything I can take care of, please let me know! Sherry Katz-Bearnot and Bob Bearnot ([email protected])

I attended Xavier HS when "Mr." Ahern was a teacher there. I treasure my memories of being on the swim team and Geary Ahern was an important part of that experience. He was the team's moderator. He cared about all of us on the team, helping to motivate us and showing through his example how to support and care for each other. Everyone had a nickname and I fondly remember his as "Gears". Please accept my condolences and heartfelt sympathy for your loss. I feel it too, even after so many years.

dear mrs. ahern and chris,
dr. ahern was my private doctor for over 30 years. he literally helped me rebuild my life cell by cell. i feel in many ways, we also grew up in helpful ways; our daughter, kate who will be 30 in june, is just a bit younger than chris. dr. ahern allowed us to watch chris in class at corpus christi to see if we liked that school for kate.
i had a very tragic background, but dr. ahern helped me not have a tragic present, a huge job that required patience, dedication, love, sincerity by example and unflinching courage.
he also set the example that what you do defines your life , love and priorities.....
he set me free.
he also connected my husband jim to helpful work with dr. leibow, and our daughter, kate with dr. turrey.
our whole family owes much to him and we join you in feelings of deep loss.
yours,
mei-mei meng
