Fred taught me from 6th grade to around 10th grade. He was great and I progressed well, and got first chairs in my high school band and orchestra. I had no sights on higher objectives. He was fun and entertaining. Taught with a light touch. Great guy.

My mother, Fred´s sister Anna, told me how dedicated he was to his students. He truly cared and was so willing to help others achieve. Besides being a major talent, he was also hilarious! Love, Cindy Bechinski

Fred was a fantastic teacher and a fun guy. He pulled me up from getting literally laughed out of All-County auditions, to becoming first chair in All-State (NYSSMA). Thank you Fred!

I was fortunate to have studied with Moe from 1955 thru 1957 and again in the early 60's. he was a wonderful teacher but his warmth and kindness was what I remember most. My lessons were more then Trombone lessons. I still remember at the end of every lesson we would play duets. I was always challenged because he played so good I would try to keep up. He drove me with his heart for I never wanted to disappoint him so I would Practice, practice, practice. He made me a better player but more importantly a better person.
Although we lost touch thru the years he always and will always live in my heart.
My sincere condolences to your family for their loss, our loss. Play on my dear friend. Joe Benedetto

I was very saddened to learn that Moe, my first trombone teacher, died on Monday. I first met Moe in 1957 when I was seven years old and he came to our house to teach my brother, Simeon. A year later, when I was ready to start an instrument, I was too small to play the trombone since I could not reach 5th position. But I wanted to take lessons with Moe. So I started on the baritone horn, which was as big as I was, but didn't require long arms. Over the years, Moe became like a member of our family. Late Thursday afternoons, he would drive up in his grey VW bug, give lessons to my brother and me, and often stay for dinner. In those years, almost every talented student trombonist in Westchester studied with him. More important than any technical skills, what made his students so exceptional was that we developed a love for the trombone, for music, and, of course, for Moe, and his playing. From an early age, we heard his beautiful sound and fluid style, which we strove to match. He was as talented as any player I met during my career. I am sure he could have been successful in a full-time classical or commercial performing career. But he chose to teach so that he could have regular hours and a stable family life with his beloved wife, Marguerite, and their children. As a young adult, I had the opportunity to perform beside him in local orchestras and bands, and never ceased to be impressed with the ease with which he played. Even the most difficult pieces seemed easy for him, and he never showed any sign of nerves. But every spring, when it was time for his students to play at the NYSSMA solo contest, he was a nervous wreck because he cared so deeply about his students. It was this rare combination of talent and dedication that made him such a wonderful teacher, and person. He was an important person in my life, and I'm sure in the lives of many others. He will be missed. My thoughts are with his family, whom he dearly loved. I hope that knowing how much others also loved him, will ease their loss.

God bless Moe. A long time friend of the family. He is on that larger bandstand know and making some great sounds.

One of the very few teachers that knew just how to solve musical problems. Ask any local trombone player for the last 40 years!!

Fred Snyder will be missed so much, by his sister, Anna, and by his niece, Cindy. My mother, Anna, has so many wonderful, funny, warm childhood memories of her brother--who was quite the comedian. I love listening to the stories, and there are many! Anna was always so impressed with Uncle Freddy's musical genius, his positive outlook on life, and his true kindness of spirit. We wish him peace and joy forever.
