A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Lake Avenue Church, Pasadena, California for Audine Ritch Groseth who passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011 in Yuma, Arizona. Officiating was Pastor William Mead. Interment was held Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
Audine Groseth was born in her home on May 27, 1928 in El Segundo, California to Percy and Mayme Ritch. As a child Audine grew up alongside three other sisters Dores, Patricia, and Claudia. She attended El Segundo High School alongside her sisters. Audine loved theater and even stared in the leading roles of a few musical plays including "Smilin' Through." In her senior year, Audine was the chief editor in her high school yearbook, president of the Glee club and sang in the Triple Trio. Audine graduated from El Segundo High School in 1946.
After high school, Audine went to El Camino Junior College then to Pepperdine University in Los Angeles, California where she got her bachelors and her teaching degree in 1950. While attending Pepperdine University, she was a member of the sorority Phi Sigma Tau.
Audine became an elementary teacher in Compton, California for four years. In 1951, Audine Ritch married Lester Willard Groseth and officially became Audine Ritch Groseth. Audine and her new husband moved to Anaheim, California and she continued to teach. While teaching, Audine had three children, Michael, Kathleen, and Cynthia. They moved to Lompoc, California and had two more children, David, and Jenny. Audine returned to teaching in 1965.
Lester passed away on July 2, 1970 leaving Audine to take care of their five children by herself. Audine continued teaching and went back to college to get her master's degree from Pepperdine University with a grade point average of 4.0 in 1976.
Audine taught for a total of thirty-four years and retired in 1995. She earned her life time teaching credentials for California. In 1999 Audine moved to Yuma, Arizona to help out with her daughter Cynthia. Every weekend Audine would drive up to Pasadena, California to help her youngest son, David, until she could no longer take the drive.
In 2010 Audine was diagnosed with two types of breast cancer, colon cancer and acute myeloid leukemia. Her passion for life would not let anything bring her down.
Many things brought enjoyment to her life such as family, friends, and stray animals. She was a very giving person, having given to numerous charities and special causes. Having never chosen a pet on her own, her home was open to animals in need of care.
Her favorite hobbies were reading, singing, playing the piano, clipping recipes, cooking, and searching genealogy for her scrapbooks. Cambria, California was her favorite getaway.
Audine leaves behind Michael Groseth (Sandra) of Redlands, California, Kathleen Grim (Chuck) of Rochester, Washington, Cynthia Kypros of Yuma, Arizona, David Groseth of Pasadena, California, Jenny Fall (Bruce) of Fresno, California, Nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and two sisters, Barnes and Claudia Gunter.
