Nancy Clontz Obituary

Nancy Jane Clontz
Nancy Jane Clontz, 57, passed away at her home with her loving husband and son by her side on December 2, 2010 after her short but courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born in Los Angeles, CA on July 2, 1953, the second child of the late William and Pauline Sheibley.
Nancy spent her childhood between the suburbs of the San Fernando Valley and her grandmother's farm in Iowa. She cherished all the childhood memories she had on the farm with her grandmother, parents, brother Ray, cousins, aunts, and uncles. She graduated in 1971 from Grover Cleveland High School in Reseda, CA where she acquired her love for the art of photography.
Nancy and her husband, Richard, met in 1978 in Northridge, CA. They moved to Lompoc in 1981, were engaged on Christmas Day of that year, and married in Santa Maria in March of 1982. Their only child, Christopher, was born later at Marian Hospital in Santa Maria. After spending five years in Lompoc, they moved to Denver, CO in 1986, and then returned to California in 1998, residing at their beautiful Santa Maria home.
Nancy was passionate about many things. She loved exercising, taking walks, and riding her mountain bike on sunny days. She loved baseball, and watching her two favorite teams, the Colorado Rockies and the Anaheim Angels. She loved to watch movies in the theater and at home with her family, and enjoyed every film from classics, featuring Mae West, W.C. Fields, and the Marx Brothers, to modern films like the Indiana Jones series and Iron Man. She enjoyed tending to her beautiful backyard garden and was an avid reader of all books, classic and contemporary. She cherished her career in the local Santa Barbara wine business, of which she worked for the past twelve years. But most of all, she was passionate about the love and care she gave to her husband and son.
Nancy's illness struck her suddenly and viciously, but true to her loving and selfless nature, she wished not to burden the ones she loved with the worries and pain of her ailment. Her love was so genuine, she confided in others of her illness only when the time was right, and she was determined to be brave and positive, telling all not to dwell on sorrows and regrets.
Nancy was the foundation of our family. In and out of her home, she touched the lives of so many people, putting everyone else's feelings and concerns above her own. We're all going to miss her, and we'll never forget her.
Nancy is survived by her husband Richard, son Christopher, brother Ray Sheibley of Greensboro, NC, her cousins, aunts, and uncles in California, her in-laws in Texas and Washington, and her numerous friends in the Santa Barbara wine country.
A graveside service will be held at the Santa Maria Cemetery Southlawn December 9th, at 2 PM.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, Crematory and Memory Gardens.

My prayers to Nancy's family. We do her taxes every year and she ALWAYS had that beautiful smile each year she came in to drop off her "3 ring binder". You just got that feeling how much of a good person she was.

Nancy was the most gracious person and always greeted us with a smile and kind words whenever we popped into the tasting rooms she worked in. She also always spoke proudly of her son. We will miss her deeply and our sincerest sympathies are with you.

I loved working with Nancy at Alma Rosa. We were the Sunday "girls". We had lots of time to chat and get to know each other. I have a great memory of a terribly rainy day and we both showed up. Trees were down and the road was flooded. We were positive no one would come but of course the brave and hearty came. We had alot of laughs that day. I will miss her.
