Jack Colley Obituary

Colley, Jack Strother III,

69, passed away early Friday morning, August 5, 2016. He was born in Ashland, Kentucky on December 16, 1946 to his parents, Clifford and Virginia Colley.

Jack was a graduate of Union College and the University of Louisville's Institute of Community Development. He was a teacher in the Jefferson County Public School System for several years and then became a sales representative with the Xerox Corporation. With steady advancement, Jack retired in 2003 as a Regional Manager in the Agent Program after 25 years of service. After retirement Jack joined Semonin as a realtor and remained active until recently.

It was at Union College that Jack met and later married his wife of 44 years, Elaine. His love and respect for and devotion to her was matched only by her love for and devotion to him.

Jack's innate ability to make others feel comfortable, supported and appreciated was one of his endearing qualities. Jack exercised a unique ability to use humor to put people at ease and on occasion to call them to task. Those who knew Jack appreciated his open, honest, genuine personality and enjoyed and respected his calm yet determined approach to any challenge he confronted. As people grew to truly know him their appreciation for the depth of his intelligence, his lust for learning, the diversity of his interests and his compassion for others also grew.

Jack's parents, Clifford and Virginia, and his sister, Mary Jane, predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, his brothers, Dan Wells (Terri) and Mike Colley (Connie), his sister, Marsha Carter and his faithful companion, Tatu.

Celebration of Life will be 4:00 PM, Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 PM until time of service.

His family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Norton Cancer Institute and the Norton Brownsboro Hospital for their professional and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Ky. Humane Society Main Campus, Kosair Children's Hospital, Hosparus-Hospice of Louisville or a charity of choice.

Elaine, I was saddened to hear about Jack's passing. He was such a wonderful man, full of fun. In all the years at Xerox, Jack was one of the best people I knew: loyal, trustworthy, steadfast, just an all around good man. Whenever the Xerox party broke up, he was always insistent on calling you to join us! Such love and devotion. I remember when you all visited me in SF-such a pal. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Nancy
