NEW ALBANY - McIntyre, Gilbert Lee "Mac," 86, returned to his Heavenly Father on April 8, 2013.
Mac was born in New Albany on October 31, 1926 to the late Arthur & Georgia McIntyre. Mac was in the Army and served in the Pacific during World War II. He retired from the old International Harvester after 30 years of service and was a member of the International Union. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1693, Hobart Beach. Mac was also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He was an avid football and basketball fan and his favorite team was Indiana University.
Mac is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Evelyn A. (Thomas) McIntyre; cousin, Pat Murphy; brother-in-law, Irvin Thomas and family; his very special friend, Diane Shaver, who is his POA, caregiver, and angel from Heaven, and her husband, Bill and their daughter, Alexis; his dear friends, Greg and Patty Henderzahs, Barry and Monica Hoke and Debbie Decker.
Special thanks to Father Ken for all his prayers and visits to the hospital to see Mac.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany) with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
