Wilbur Cannon Obituary

BOWLING GREEN - Cannon, Wilbur Jesse "W.J." 90, of Scottsville, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at his son's residence at 5:32 a.m.

W. J. was born in Ohio Co., KY on September 3, 1922.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Bean Cannon and Florence Ann Nabours Cannon; one son, Patrick Terrance Cannon; and one sister, Alice Marie Cannon.

W. J. was a retired Lt. Colonel from the U. S. Air Force having served in World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War, during his 30 years in the military. He was an O.S.I. agent and a pilot in the Air Force. He was a past State Commander for the V.F.W. in Kentucky and the first Kentuckian to hold national office in the V.F.W. W. J. was a active member of the Cootie organization (a charitable branch of the V. F. W.) He was a graduate of Western Kentucky University and received a law degree from the University of Louisville. He was also a member of MENSA, as well as many other organizations. After retiring from the U. S. Air Force, W. J. and Jean owned and ran the Allen Co. News in Scottsville, KY, (and two other papers), then they owned and ran Cannon Office Supply Co. also in Scottsville, KY, "THEN THEY RETIRED FOR GOOD" He is survived by his wife of 67 years of marriage, Jean W. Cannon; one son, Clark Robert Cannon (Sharon) of Bowling Green; and one granddaughter, Bianca Louise Barreto of Bowling Green.

Private graveside services will be Monday July 1, 2013 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, with military honors at graveside. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Kentucky Veterans Homes.
