OGBURN, MARY GAIL SIMMS was born to Francis Gregory Simms and Delena Barber Simms on April 10, 1939, in Springfield, KY. She was the fourth of seven Simms children and educated at St. Dominic's Grade School, among a nurturing extended family of dozens of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in Springfield. Graduating from St. Catharine's Academy School in 1957, she moved to Louisville where she found work and many friends.
Before meeting and marrying Jim Ogburn, Gail travelled back to Springfield to explore the future of St. Catherine's Novitiate, undoubtedly inspired by the example of three of her aunts, sisters of Mercy and Ursuline. Her year as a postulate assured her and the Ursulines that God had a different vocation in mind and her strong and abiding faith was rewarded in a career as wife, mother and friend.
In addition to her father and mother, Gail lost her sister, Flo Simms Cambron.
She is survived by her husband, James E. Ogburn Sr.; son, Jim Jr. with wife Jeanelle and their children Angus and Audrey Ogburn and daughter Lucy Weaver with husband Chad and their son Grayson Weaver. She is also survived by her sister, Madeleine Simms Grayson; and her brothers, Sandy, John B., Phil and Alex Simms, and as "Aunt Pretty" to all her cherished nieces and nephews.
Gail's outreaching personality and willingness to take on challenges supported the couple's 48 years of marriage and job assignments in Los Angeles, Cohasset, MA, Cincinnati, OH and Orlando, FL. She always took a good time with her and shared it with everyone she met. She never left the friends at home and has enjoyed the renewal of 50-year long friends during retirement.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 2 - 8 p.m. at Highlands Funeral Home and the funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Friday March 8, 2013.

Dear Ogburn Family,
I knew Gail at Baptist East pulmonary rehab and she was one of my favorites - she was a favorite of EVERYONE, patients and staff. Always so gracious and good humored and upbeat. Just last Thurs, we talked about her time living in Cohasset - I go to Martha's Vineyard - and we talked about how lovely it is there. I was stunned to go to rehab today and she her obituary posted.
I am so terribly sorry for you all. I know her family was her life. She will be much missed at rehab - just not the same without her there.

Lucy and the Ogburn Family - You are in our thoughts - she was such a beautifully warm, caring, and fun lady. As Lucy's friends, she made sure we felt welcomed and special - I'll never forget meeting her for the first time - we need more people like her in the world - Love you, Doug and Parry

Dear Jim, I was so saddened to hear of the passing of Gail. We had some great memories together especially that trip we all took together to visit New York City over July 4th visiting our customers. Gail's infectious laugh will be dearly missed.

Jim, Jim Jr. and Lucy:
I loved Gail's humor and laughter. It was her way of sharing the very best of herself. Our children and grandchildren's flourishing was our heart's desire and common bond. I believe Gail IS hearing the words "Well done, good and faithful servant".
