Keenan, Catherine Joan "Joann"
Keenan, Catherine Joan "Joann", 83, passed away peacefully on January 15th at Baptist East Hospital with her children by her side. Born as Catherine Joan Ryden in Rankin, Illinois she was the only child of Mary Frances Dorman and Joseph D. Ryden of Medaryville, Indiana. The young family would later live as the caretakers on the Jasper-Pulaski, Indiana Wildlife Reserve, where Catherine's lifelong love of animals took root. She received her nursing degree from Holy Cross Central School of Nursing in South Bend, Indiana and moved to Louisville for her first nursing position at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. That career would be interrupted by Catherine's five children who consider themselves infinitely fortunate to have received her constant love and support through childhood and beyond. She later returned to nursing at Highlands Baptist and Baptist East Hospital where she would retire after 20 years of caring for oncology patients. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her children, Cathy Bower (Anthony), Mary Jo Lueken (Jim), Patricia Bryant (Larry), Michael Keenan (Susan) and Joe Sean Keenan. Joe provided his mother with years of loving care for which the family will be forever grateful. Catherine was also blessed with six grandchildren; Andrew, Heather, Meagan, Brigett, Brian and Keenan, two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter. A private family service will be held at Resthaven cemetery. The family expresses special thanks to Justin and the staff at Baptist Hospital and to Keith at Hosparus. Rest in peace, Mom.
