Doris Chady Obituary

CHADY, DORIS LORRAINE (HOLLINGER), 83, died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Fish Memorial Hospital in Orange City, FL, while visiting family.

She was born September 27, 1926 in Hebron, WI, the seventh of eight children to Arthur Raymond and Florence Agnes (Reider) Hollinger.

Doris' greatest gift was her love, care and concern for her family. Another notable attribute was her eye for fashion and beauty in every aspect of life.

Doris attended the East Side Elementary School and Whitewater City High School, where she was prom queen, cheerleader, choir member and a band flag bearer. She was junior at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater when she left school to begin her family.

Doris was an ardent and devoted Catholic after becoming a convert in 1945. She married Edward, her high school sweetheart, on September 25, 1945 at St. Patrick's Church in Whitewater, WI, after Ed obtained leave from his Navy Destroyer.

Doris was a member of St. Patrick's Church for 10 years, and a member of the following churches in Louisville, Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL) for 45 years, St. Gabriel for eight years and currently St. Margaret Mary, since moving to the Forum in 2008.

An avid bridge player, with Ed as a partner, she belonged to the River Road, Holy Spirit, Progressive and Duplicate Bridge clubs. Ed and Doris were extensive travelers, visiting every state and Canadian province and many foreign countries. She was a volunteer teacher of ceramics and bridge. Her love of ceramics provided gifts to friends and family throughout the years.

Doris was an active member of OLOL Altar Society (President), St. Gabriel Golden Age, St. Margaret Mary Senior Club and Hikes Point Women's Club (President) and a a member of Queen's Daughters. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Leader and provided transportation for multiple children's activities.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mildred Winn; and four brothers, Orville, Raymond, Harold and Robert; daughter-in-law, Carol June (Andes) Chady and son-in-law, Antal Atilla Pavai.

Doris is survived by Edward J. Chady, her loving husband of 64 years. She was the proud matriarch of an extended family of 75, including spouses. Her eight children include three daughters, Anne Monsour (Dennis), Susan Person (David), both of Louisville, Mary Pat Pavai of Pinellas Park, FL; five sons, Edward A. Chady (Theresa) of Bartlett, TN, Robert John Chady (Gale) of Deltona, FL, Thomas Chady of Vicksburg, MS, Stephen Chady (Mary Pat) of Broomfield, CO, and William Chady (Bettye) of Louisville. Her family includes 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Bernice Schultz of Fort Atkinson, WI; and a brother, Dean Hollinger of Whitewater, WI; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 19th at St. Margaret Mary Church, 7813 Shelbyville Rd. with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday, December 18th at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road.

The pallbearers will be the five sons and oldest grandson, Robert Joseph Chady of Fort Atkinson, WI.

After a long battle with Parkinson's and Heart Disease, Doris has requested that remembrances be made to National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Avenue Miami, FL 33136-1494 or American Heart Association, 240 Whittington Parkway, Louisville, KY 40202.
