Asa Louis Hord

HORD, ASA LOUIS, 79, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Episcopal Church Home.

He was born September 22, 1933 in Speedwell, KY to John Rufus Hord and Bertha Geneva Parks. He was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and was a certified public accountant.

Asa was a retired partner of Deloitte & Touche, LLP. He served as the national director for the public sector and had more than 30 years of professional accounting experience in financial institutions, college, governmental agencies and private foundations. He served on the AICPA Pretest Task Force, served as the vice chair and chair of the NASBA CPA Examination Review Board. He was a former NASBA Southeast regional director, director-at-large and chair of NASBA's Examinations and New Horizons Committees. He distinguished himself in the service of the public in accountancy regulation both statewide and nationally.

Asa was recognized as an innovator, conceptual thinker, and influential force in the successful implementation, evaluation, and validation of the Certified Public Accountants Examination. He was a member of the Kentucky Society of CPAs, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and twice served as president of the Kentucky State Board of Public Accountancy.

Asa was also involved in the leadership of numerous community organizations including: the Salvation Army, Kentucky Baptist Foundation, the advisory board for Campbellsville University, the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees, St. Matthews Baptist Church in Louisville, and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Steering Committee. He was a US Army veteran and a longtime member and treasurer of St. Matthews Baptist Church.

Asa is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sylvia; sons Louie (Janet), John (Robin) and Jim (Nancy); eight grandchildren, Heather (Ryan), Ashley (Brandon), Megan, Mandy, Madilyn, Chloe, Clayton and Landen; and two great-granddaughters, Reese and Harper. He is also survived by one sister, Edith Hahn (Ted) of Covington, KY.

His funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Matthews Baptist Church, 3515 Grandview Ave., with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Pearson's Funeral Home, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Expressions of sympathy to: St. Matthew's Baptist Church
