Clara C. Pelfrey

RADCLIFF - Pelfrey, Clara C., 99, of Radcliff, KY, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at home in Louisville, KY.

She was a retired school teacher who came to Fort Knox as a kindergarten teacher in 1944 and retired in 1983 as the Coordinator of Elementary Education for Fort Knox Schools. Her greatest joys were teaching little children and mentoring young teachers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Wilburn Pelfrey; her parents, Joseph Wade and Ora Crowe Cantrell; a sister, Frances Shore; and a cousin, Elizabeth Mahan of Princeton, KY.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia P. Wareham of Rockledge, FL; a granddaughter and her husband, Susan Egger and Chris Smith of Louisville; a grandson, Timothy Allen Wareham of Kansas City, MO; five great grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Moore of Birmingham, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 2:30 EST (1:30 CST) on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Princeton, with Rev. Patricia Wareham and Rev. Kenneth Godshall officiating. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff. A celebration in honor of her life will be held at the home of her granddaughter at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Veterans in need of wheelchairs through the Independence Fund.
