Francis Bertrand "Frank" Alvey Ph.D., M.D., J.D.

ALVEY, FRANCIS "FRANK" BERTRAND, PH.D, M.D., J.D., died September 25, 2011 in Louisville.

Dr. Alvey was born in Louisville, April 24, 1934, the son of James Emmett and Anna L. Berghaus Alvey. A graduate of Flaget High School, he received his B.A. in chemistry from Bellarmine University in 1957. He then earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Louisville in 1960, his M.D. in 1973 and his Juris Doctor degree in 1981 also from the University of Louisville. He was Medical Director of the Emergency Medicine Department of St. Anthony Hospital from 1978 to 1985 and Clinical Instructor in the Family Practice Department of the U of L School of Medicine beginning in 1986.

In 1988 he served as Medical and Administrative Director of the Emergency Department of Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown. Dr. Alvey was a member of the American College of Physicians, American College of Emergency Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine, American Chemical Society, Kentucky Medical Association and the Jefferson County Medical Society.

He is survived by his brothers, Dr. James E. Alvey (Suzanne) and John H. Alvey (Marlyn); his close friend, James T. Wilson; brother-in-law, Otto E. Schilling; sister-in-law, Jean Alvey; numerous nieces, nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Wednesday at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 639 S. Shelby St., with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Bosse Funeral Home. 1355 Ellison at Barret avenues.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Martin of Tours Church, Little Sisters of the Poor or Holy Angels Academy.
