ELIZABETHTOWN - Tomes, Franklin D., was born on March 13, 1933 to Corneilus and Effie Deweese Tomes. Frank passed from this earthly life on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the age of 81 years and one month.
Frank worked hard as a young man mostly in service to others. He provided a good life for Rea and the girls. Although his earthly life has ended, his eternal life has just begun.
He was a member of Morrison Lodge #76 F&AM. and a regional sales manager for Commonwealth Life Insurance Company.
Frank grew up on a small farm in Edmonson County, Kentucky in a family with strong Christian values. His mother was quick to voice how all she wanted was to see her children follow Christ. His upbringing led him to Christ as a young boy and it was there that he was baptized and professed his salvation. He was often found singing base with the church along with his father. He knew what it meant to "walk in the ways of the Lord".
Growing up in the era that Frank grew up in meant that his country would call for his service and when they did Frank willingly went to serve. He was a US Army
Veteran and served proudly in the Korean War
. Before leaving for the war at the age of 20, Frank met and married Marie Smith. They were married on April 27, 1953. Frank and Rea were married for 43 years when God called Rea home. Three daughters were born to this union and they survive Frank and Rea.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters, Ernestene, Delphene, Ilene and Ida Jane.
Debbie Meredith, her husband Patrick, Beverly Hullett, her husband Terry and Tammy Blanton. Frank is also survived by one brother, Silas and his wife Shirley Tomes; three grandsons, Mathew Meredith and his wife Amy, Patrick Andrew Meredith and his wife April, Brandon Blanton and his wife Teneea; four great-grandchidlren, Cassie Meredith, Liam Meredith, Isabelle and Brantlee Blanton. Frank is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews along with his brother-in-law, Opal Smith and his sisters-in-law, Dimple and Becky Meredith.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Charlie Smith officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
