George Perkins

PERKINS, GEORGE, 96, died July 8, 2013.

He lived his belief to leave the world better than he found it, spending most of his life working to help others. He left behind his PhD in metallurgy and career at Reynolds Metals to head Bellewood Children's Home, earn an MSSW, and serve as Kentucky Commissioner of Child Welfare. He was devoted to supporting recovery from substance abuse and founded the Human Development Company and Intervention Resource Center. He excelled at making good and ethical things happen. He was active in Anchorage and Central Presbyterian Churches, Rotary Club, the Healing Place, and compassion groups.

His loving wife of 43 years, Helen Matsko Perkins, predeceased him.

He is survived by his beloved partner of 25 years, Lore Sadler; son, George Gary Perkins (Joan); daughter, Dr. Gay Helen Perkins; granddaughters, Eileen Visser, Amy Perkins, and Catherine Caccialanza (Lorenzo); and three great-grandchildren.

We will miss his wisdom, humor, and the sparkle in his kind eyes.
