GROSSMAN , HOWARD BURT, died peacefully at the age of 84 on Wednesday, January 23, 2013.
Born on September 24, 1928 in Louisville, KY, to Maurice and Sadye Grossman, he excelled in his studies at Manual High School and went on to attain a business degree from Vanderbilt University
. Immediately, upon graduating, he married his childhood neighbor and sweetheart, Helane Steinfeld, who he has devotedly adored from the age of 12.
Howard was veteran who served his country as a CPA during the Korean War
in the US Army
Audit Agency. He returned to Louisville to selflessly assist his aging parents in the family dry goods business, Grossman's Department Store. Howard eventually entered the life insurance field at the age of 31 and was with Northwestern Mutual for 23 years, during which time he enjoyed success as a regular member of the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table. The firm leveraged Howard's sales and accounting skills by appointing him head of training for new agents, specializing in financial planning.
In 1984, at the age of 56, when most seniors are focused on retiring, Howard courageously moved with his wife, Helane, to Boca Raton, FL, where he worked for New England Life Insurance for 15 years, again training new agents. Upon retirement in 1994, he volunteered as a substitute teacher in the Palm Beach Public School System. Howard was always happiest in the presence of children, including his own, who were a rapt audience for his inexhaustible, funny anecdotes and stories.
Howard attended Congregation Adath Jeshurun and was a member of the Jewish Community Center. He was a loving father, prioritizing his family over all else, never faltering in exhibiting care and concern.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Helane Steinfeld Grossman; and adoring children and their families, Anne Brewer, fiancé, Joe Huttie and son, Andrew Plisner; Jon Grossman and son, Adam; Tom Jourden, wife, Claudia and daughter, Lexi; he is also survived by his beloved sister, Judie Sherman and husband, Erwin; aunt, Gerri Snyder; brother-in-law, Jim Steinfeld and wife, Joyce; and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend thanks to the many friends who helped make Howard comfortable and assisted Helane during his elder years.
