James E. Gleitz

CORYDON - Gleitz, James E., 87, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehab at Corydon, IN.

He was born at Corydon on April 16, 1927, the son of the late Edward M. Gleitz and Hattie C. Denbo Gleitz Barnes.

He was a 1944 graduate of Corydon High School; an Army veteran of World War II, where he was company clerk (1945-1947). He was a member of Harrison County Farm Bureau for 66 years and a member of Heidelberg United Methodist Church in Corydon.

He was a retired farmer and a newspaper carrier for the Courier-Journal and Louisville Times from 1961 to 1990.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine E. Gleitz to whom he was married for 60 years; sister, Clarice F. Mathes; and brother, Kenneth R. Gleitz.

He is survived by three sons, Larry A. Gleitz (Dottie) of Covington, KY; Roger W. Gleitz (Doris) of Leavenworth, IN; Ralph Gleitz (Jill) of Rockford, IL; two daughters, Karen M. Humphrey (Terry) of Louisville, KY and Nancy J. Allen (Steve) of Perrysville, IN; one brother, Norman Carl Gleitz of Jeffersonville, IN; two sisters, Norma Cathern Hisey (Darrell) of Chattanooga, TN: and Trudy D. Richardson (Russell) of Corydon, IN; one brother-in-law, John W. Mathes; two sisters-in-law, Doris Gleitz of Indianapolis, IN and Rose Anna Gleitz of Corydon, IN; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at the Heidelberg United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2014. Rev. Dr. Scott Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service.
