SILK, JEAN RAMSER, 88, died at Tanbark Health Care Center Monday, June 2, 2014 in Lexington, KY.
Jean was born in Louisville on March 12, 1926 and was the oldest of six children of Margaret and Herbert Ramser.
Jean was a graduate of Mercy Academy in Louisville and of Eastern Kentucky University. Upon graduation she was hired as the first librarian at Tates Creek Elementary in Lexington and in the closing year of her tenure there was named Fayette County Teacher of the Year.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Bryon Silk; and their son, David Bryon Silk; and her brother, Herbert Ramser, Jr. Jean is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Michael) Feldhaus and Sharon (Richard) Pfister; and daughter-in-law, Susan Silk; seven grandchildren, Bryon (Maria) Silk, Katie (Johnnie) Jacobs, Erin (Ed) Spengeman, Lauren (Beau) Riley, Rebecca (Drew) Feldhaus Adams, Glenn (Jessica) Pfister, and Nick Pfister; and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Pat) Palma and Rosemary (Ron) Griffin; and two brothers, Emmett (Pat) Ramser and Mil Ramser.
A funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Cathedral of Christ the King, 299 Colony Blvd., Lexington, by Rev. Gino Donatelli. Interment will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
