BATTCHER, JOHN ALBERT JR., 83, passed away Friday, April 20, 2007 after a life well lived. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Albert Battcher Sr. and Susie (Raley) Battcher; a brother, Charles Irvin; a sister, Sophie Mae Thompson; and grandson, Joshua Albert Greenwell. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rosella (Bickett); and the proud father of eight children, Susan Smith (Jonathan Karl), Paula Battcher, Janet Robertson (Bill), John Albert Battcher III, Mary Ann Broadstone (Tom), Don Battcher (Valerie), Pat Edmondson (Denny) and Martha Greenwell (Jim); and surviving brothers and sisters, Lucille Florence (George), Billy (Betty), Howard (Amanda), Sue Ann Mattingly (Jim), Joe Henry and Carolyn Morgan; 16 grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and was loved by many nieces, nephews and friends. Albert was a retired bookkeeper at J-town Gateway, Real Estate broker, and a partner in Peterson-Battcher Lumber Company. He was a distinguished Army World War II veteran, a combat engineer with the 171st division, a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge, a Bronze Star recipient, founding donor of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and a Kentucky Colonel. The Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Monday at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Louisville, with burial at 1:30 p.m. in Lebanon National Cemetery, Lebanon, KY. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer vigil at 4 p.m. at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Rd. Arrangements: Mattingly Funeral Home of Loretto, KY.
