BRANDENBURG - Brown, Joseph Garland Sr., 86, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012.
"Garland" was born October 3, 1926 in Concordia, KY to the late Nelle Heavrin and Judge W. E. "Ned" Brown. He is also preceded in death by: his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" Woolfolk Brown; siblings, Edward Brown, Anne Pace, Susan Kinney, Patsy Foushee, and Audrey Broussard Dugan.
He was a devoted family man; avid outdoorsman; charter member of the Meade County Sportsman Club; member of St. John's Catholic Church; member of Ducks Unlimited; founding member of Yellowbank Wild Turkey Federation; member of the first Meade County High School basketball team to win a trophy; a Navy veteran of World War II; and a retired employee of Meade County RECC after 42 years of employment.
Garland is survived by his children, Joseph G. (Nancy) Brown, Jr. of Clearwater, FL, John W. Brown, Richard M. (Cathy) Brown, Mary E. Straney all of Louisville, Laura E. (Jim) Banky of Bolivia, NC, Emily J. (Paul) Correa of Bowling Green, KY, Lucinda (Phillip) Henning and Mark S. (Donna) Brown all of Brandenburg; his brother, Tony (Amanda) Brown of Brandenburg; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Gibson Brown of Irvington, KY and Pat Woolfolk of Brandenburg; brothers-in-law, Frank Kinney of Louisville, Bill Woolfolk of Jacksonville, NC, and Tom Ellis of Munhall, PA; and his faithful companion Coco.
Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. EST at St. John's Church in Brandenburg, Father Kevin Bryan officiating, with burial to follow in St. George Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home, Thursday, from 1-9 p.m. EST and Friday at St. John's Church from 9 a.m. to the time of the service. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m.
