HAMILTON-BAILEY, JOYCE, 85, of Louisville peacefully passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's in Colorado Springs, CO, on April 5, 2014.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Sarah Hamilton-Bailey, and grandsons Harrison and Sebastian Shaul of Brooklyn, NY; and son and daughter-in-law, Richard Bailey and Kasie Jones of Colorado Springs.
Joyce was born in Clapham, London, England in 1928 to Albert and Edna Smith. Her sister Doreen (Tish) preceded her in death. Joyce was married to Dave Davis in 1946. They divorced in 1956. Joyce married John Hamilton-Bailey in 1959 and lived in England, Scotland, and Louisville until 1980 when they ended their marriage. Joyce remained in Louisville until 2009, when she moved to Colorado Springs.
Joyce loved the arts and enchanted her wide circle of friends with her intelligence, wit, and loyal friendship. As a young woman, Joyce worked at Aldermaston, a Nuclear Physics Research Facility near Newbury, Berkshire. Joyce also worked for Southern Television in Southampton. Joyce worked as a Fashion Consultant in the designer departments at Byck's and Bacons in Louisville. Joyce was known for her impeccable sense of style and endearing loyal customers. In retirement, Joyce volunteered as a docent at the Speed Museum in Louisville. Joyce will be remembered for her love of family and friends, her angelic singing voice, and her zest for living a full life.
A funeral service will be held on June 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 330 N. Hubbards Lane in Louisville. Reception to follow.
