HALL, MICHAEL G., 67, passed away June 17, 2013 in Scottsdale, AZ.
Mike's life journey began August 30, 1945 in Muncie, IN, where he attended Muncie Central High School and continued his education at Ball State University until the time he was drafted into the United States Army
. During the time he spent serving in the United States Army he was stationed in Ft. Knox, KY, Ft. Gordon, GA and Fulda, Germany as part of the 1st Squadron, 14th Armored Cavalry, holding a rank of Sergeant while leading a Platoon patrolling the West German/Soviet Demarcation Line.
Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge from the United States Army on December 20, 1971 Mike traveled for a year exploring the different People, Cultures and Scenery of Europe. This experience set in motion his lifelong love of travel and exploration, never content with staying in one place and always seeking to learn new things, enjoy new experiences and meet new people. He often referred to his life's travels and experiences as "his Journey." After returning to the United States Mike settled in Northern Indiana. He was employed by Zimmer Orthopedic Company, Warsaw, IN in the Manufacturing department. After a short time in Manufacturing he was offered the opportunity to pursue a sales position in Roanoke, VA. He later relocated to Louisville, where he continued his successful Sales career with Zimmer Orthopedic Company. During his time in Louisville and while working he pursued the completion of his College Degree at the University of Louisville completing his Bachelors of Science in Commerce in 1976.
In 1978 Mike was asked to join a startup Orthopedic Company by the name of Biomet, Inc., Warsaw, IN where he became one of the original Distributors with initial responsibility for IN, KY and TN. He later went on to become the Director of Sales and Marketing as Biomet prospered during its early years. In 1978 Biomet generated $17,000 in Sales. Today Biomet is one of the Top 5 Orthopedic Implant companies in the world currently generating annual sales of $2.5B in sales annually in 90 countries.
Following Mike's time at Biomet, Inc. he founded Validus, LLC and also co-founded Periculum, Inc. a Capital Investment Company based in Indianapolis, IN. While involved with Periculum, Inc. Mike and his partners raised capital and did acquisitions for a variety of businesses including acquisitions and sales of Midwest Orthodontics and Suros, a breast biopsy company that was sold to Hologic, a women's health focused company.
Mike was an accomplished diver, achieving the level of rescue diver. He had a passion for Flying and was a twin engine rated private pilot. He loved to travel anywhere, anytime, with anyone or no one. He just returned from the Philippines and had upcoming trips planned to Germany and Africa.
Mike was a driven, passionate person. He strived to be the best at any chosen endeavor and expected nothing less from those around him. Some would say he was intense and spirited - he was. Some would say he was passionate and caring - he was. He loved those around him intensely. For those that were in his inner circle there were no boundaries to that Love. He loved his family and friends and they loved him. He gave of himself first never asking for anything in return.
Mike was preceded in death by his son, John Thomas Hall, of Los Angeles, CA. He will be celebrated and sadly missed by his daughter, Laurelie and her son, Benjamen of Oceanside, CA; his brother, David, his sister-in-law, Valerie, nephew, Reid, and niece, Christine all of Louisville; personal assistant, Carol Broecker of Indianapolis, IN; close personal friend, Bruce Shaffner of Chicago, IL; and many, many others, including aunts, uncles, cousins and friends across the U.S. as well as the Cayman Islands, Germany and Italy.
Godspeed to you Mike as your Journey continues in Heaven. We look forward to the day we are all reunited.
Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Holy Trinity Church 501 Cherrywood Road, Louisville, KY 40207 with funeral service immediately following. Burial will be at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.
