ORLEANS - Schmidt, Patrick, 61, of Orleans, IN, died Thursday, April 24, at Hospice House of Bloomington.
He was born November 30, 1952 in New Albany, IN, the son of Bill and Anna (Sturgeon) Schmidt.
He married Susie Burton on May 24, 1990 and she survives.
He attended Ball State University and was a graduate of Indiana University
of South Bend with a degree in accounting. He received his C.P.A. Certificate in Kentucky.
He began his career as an accountant at the Coopers and Lybrand Accounting Firm in Louisville, KY. Later, he worked as Senior Vice President of Finance at Reynolds, Inc. in Orleans, IN; and as senior vice president at Layne Christensen Company in Orleans, IN.
He was an avid golfer and a member of the Bloomington Country Club and the Lake Nona Country Club in Orlando, FL. He was a fan of the Indiana University Hoosiers, and coached the Orleans High School Girls' Softball Team for 9 years between 1998 and 2007. He served on the Orleans Community School Board, and was on the Orange County Development Commission Board. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of Orleans, IN; his parents of New Albany, IN; two sons, Kelly (Amanda) Schmidt of Sellersburg, IN, and Lucas (Kerri) Burton of Nashville, TN; one granddaughter, Evie Lou Burton of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Danny Schmidt of Floyd Knobs, IN, and Greg (Jan) Schmidt of Memphis, TN; and niece and nephew, Devony and Evan Schmidt of Memphis, TN.
The visitation service will take place at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 2-7 p.m. The funeral Mass will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mitchell at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014 with burial to follow in Bethel Cemetery.
