Phares L. Steiner

STEINER, PHARES L., 85, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Ellen Heineman Steiner; daughter, Adrienne Claire Steiner; son, Paul Christopher Steiner and a brother Donald F. Steiner M.D. of Chicago.

Phares was born in Lima, OH, June 18, 1928, and graduated from Lima Central High School. He earned a B.M., majoring in organ at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and an M.M. in organ performance at the University of Michigan, studying with Robert Noehren, with whom he then began building pipe organs ca1954.

Phares was an avid pipe organ builder for more than 40 years and founder of Steiner Organs Inc., Louisville. He was also an avid lover and performer of the organ literature.

He was a member of Cathedral of the Assumption Catholic Church, a charter member of the American Pipe Organ Builders Assn. and member of Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity.

Funeral service will be held Friday, 1 p.m. at Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. Fifth St., with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, 3 to 8 p.m. at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, "in St. Matthews."
