Robert B. Spencer

Spencer, Robert B.,

81 of Louisville, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2014. He was born on July 28, 1933 in Derby, Indiana to the late John Samuel and Clara Pearl Spencer. He served proudly in the Navy as Third Class Petty Officer Radar man and upon returning from active duty, he attended college and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College then Indiana University. He was a beloved and well respected Jefferson County elementary school principal and was also a patient and generous elementary school teacher and social worker. Even after his retirement, he continued to teach in the vocation he loved, serving as a substitute teacher in Oldham County.

In his spare time he enjoyed reading, gardening, singing in the church choir, ballroom dancing, traveling, cooking, spending time with family and friends, hanging out at the family farm that holds so many memories and working tirelessly to bring the farm back to its former glory. During the annual houseboat trip to Dale Hollow Lake with family and friends, he captained the boat and was affectionately known as "Ranger Bob". Always the highlight on family and friend's August calendar and as he would want, we will continue this decades old family tradition. We are all forever thankful he introduced us to Dale Hollow.

Robert was a loving husband to his wife Sue, and an inspiration to us all in his devotion and affection throughout their 56 year marriage. He showed the same love and devotion to his two children, Stacia and Greg, and never lost an opportunity to tell anyone within earshot how proud he was of them both. He was loved and treasured by us all, and we will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his loving wife Sue; children, Stacia Spencer (Gary Fuschi), Greg Spencer (Wanda Meeker); granddaughter Claire Fuschi; sister, Laurna Faye Partridge; brother, John Spencer; and also two aunts, an uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, in laws, and friends.
