BIRMINGHAM, ROY JUNIOR, 86, of Louisville, born in Menominee, MI, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012.
Roy never met a person he didn't like. He was a generous and warm hearted man who was beloved by all who knew him. He loved his children and adored his grandchildren and supported them through out their educational years.
He retired from GE after 40 years and immediately began another career at the JCPS Volunteer Talent Center for high risk youth where he shared his passion for public education and fishing until the day he passed away. He was a member of Harvey Brown Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and deacon and also attended The Episcopal Church Home Chapel.
He was a decorated WWII
veteran with the 45 Infantry Army serving in Italy and France.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marian Berg Birmingham.
He is survived by his daughter, Mareth Birmingham-Gillespie (Gerry); sons, Jim Birmingham (Ellen Friedman) and Tom Birmingham; grandchildren, Kelly VanHoose, Lynne Birmingham and Alexandra Birmingham; and his companion of 14 years, June Hampe.
Roy's memorial service will be Saturday 3pm at The Episcopal Church Home Chapel 7504 Westport Road. Visitation will be Friday 3-5pm at Ratterman's 3711 Lexington Road.
