MINYARD, RUTH EVELYN HINTON, 90, of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, WV, after a brief illness, with her family by her side.
Ruth was born July 18, 1923, in Allen County Kentucky, to Roy P. and Tula Mayhew Hinton. In 1944, she married her college sweetheart, Luther Edgar Minyard, and was happily married for sixty-seven years.
Ruth attended Western Kentucky University. After college, she taught school for six years, teaching different grade levels in five Kentucky counties. In 1952 Ruth began a long career with the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency in Louisville, Kentucky, as a cartographer for the military. She retired in 1982, after 30 years of important service to our country. Ruth was a founding member of Hurstbourne Baptist Church where she was very active for almost fifty years. She was also a charter member of Hurstbourne Country Club, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In 2011 Ruth moved to the The Ridgemont at Edgewood Summit in Charleston, West Virginia, to live near her daughter and family. In 2013 she received a "Remember Me Award" from the West Virginia Health Association.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Melanie Van Metre (Ed); grandchildren, Ray Van Metre (Kelly), and Meg Stallard (Todd); and five great-grandchildren, Lydia, Spencer, and Emerson Van Metre, and Sarah and Gretchen Stallard.
Ruth's funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2013 at Hurstbourne Baptist Church, 8800 Shelbyville Rd., Louisville, with burial to follow in Union Church Cemetery in Fountain Run, KY, at 3 p.m. CST. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2013, at Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Rd., East Louisville, KY, 40243.
