BAKER, REVEREND THOMAS E., 88, of Louisville, died November 18, 2012 after a short-term illness.
He was born November 30, 1923, in Hazard, KY, the son of Guy Baker and Emily Anne Thomas. Rev. Baker served as a coxswain/electrician in the US Navy
during World War II
. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology from Georgetown College. Later he obtained his theology degree at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Rev. Baker served as a bi-vocational pastor to the Mussel Shoals Baptist Church in Owenton, KY from 1968 to 1989. The Reverend and Mrs. Baker were also members of the Ninth-and-O Baptist Church. Tom's interest in engineering led him to a technical position with the United States Army Corps of Engineers based in Louisville. Rev. Baker was an avid reader and prepared weekly sermons and bible school lessons for his congregation and taught Sunday school classes until his passing. He also enjoyed Louisville Cardinals football, basketball and major league baseball.
Survivors include his wife, Orilla; daughter, Susan Walker (Paul Rom); grandson, Nathaniel Thomas Walker; sister, Esther May Michael (Pittsburgh, PA); brother, Guy Wendell Baker (Mt. Vernon, IL), and Cecil Ray Baker (Lexington, KY). Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his son, Guy Earl Baker, his twin sister Mary Catherine Horner, and his parents.
Arrangements are being handled by Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Ave., Louisville, where visitation and services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 from 10 a.m. -noon. Interment will be at Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Thomas Baker's name to the Ninth-and-O Baptist Church Building Fund, Louisville.
