MARSHALL, DR. THOMAS M., 96, died Thursday June 6, 2013 at The Forum at Brookside.
He was born April 15, 1917 in Frankfort, KY to Wiley C. and Maud Ponder Marshall. He practiced neurosurgery for 38 years in Louisville and later performed disability evaluations of neurosurgical cases for a number of years until retirement in 1993. After graduation from University of KY, he graduated from University of Louisville Medical School, where he was elected to A.O.A. He spent 4 years in the US Navy taking part in the North African and Sicilian Invasions and attained the rank of Lt. Commander. After a fellowship in Neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic, he received an M.S. degree in Neurosurgery from the University of Minnesota
and was elected to Sigma Xi. He began neurosurgical practice in Louisville in 1950 and was Associate Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at U of L Medical School until 1985. He was a founding member and past president of the Congress of Neurosurgical Surgeons and a member of a number of Medical societies as well as the Executive Club, Advisory Board of the Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club of Louisville, The Pendennis Club, Big Spring Country Club and The Juniper Club. He was an avid fisherman and persistent golfer as well as an Elder at Second Presbyterian Church.
Preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Nancye Miller Marshall.
He is survived by daughters, Nancye Dale Etter (Sam) of The Villages, FL, Sally Ann Gregory (Hugh) of Versailles, KY; son, Thomas L. Marshall (Joy) of Pleasureville, KY; grandson, Hugh Brown Gregory III; and his beloved dog, Katie.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday Frankfort, KY, cemetery. Friends may gather at 10:45 a.m. at cemetery entrance. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane.
