MILLER, THOMAS V., 69, of Louisville, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
Tom was born in Louisville, October 13, 1943. He graduated from Eastern High School, 1961, Vanderbilt University
, 1965, earned his master's from Southern Illinois University 1967, and Ph.D. in psychology from Michigan State University
Tom had a long and varied career in the field of psychology. His career began as a professor of psychology, University of Toledo, University of Bridgeport, CT, and Alderson-Broaddus College, WV. In Louisville, he retired from Central State Hospital, 2006, after 27 year career in clinical psychology. Tom served as Program Director of the Secure Care Unit. In addition to private practice, he administered Disability Mental Status Exams for the State.
Tom was an active member of Springdale Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. He served on the Personnel team and Session. Tom also volunteered for the Democratic Party. He travelled extensively throughout his life and especially loved the trips he made with his family. Tom treasured his pets, the "Miller Menagerie." His friends will remember his humor and his thoughtful, caring personality.
He leaves to lovingly cherish his memory, his wife of 48 years, Karen Austin Miller; his daughters, Jennifer Miller Chester (David), and Kate Miller Hosna (David); grandchildren, Catherine and Alex Chester, Jack and Sophie Hosna; and brother, David W. Miller (Christine).
The family wishes to thank his friends, church, and family for their support during his illness.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Springdale Presbyterian Church, 7812 Brownsboro Road, with burial to follow in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at his church. Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, East Louisville was entrusted with arrangements.
