Robert Youngblood Obituary
Youngblood, Robert M.,
73, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Baptist Hospital in Louisville after a severe stroke.
He was born February 13, 1943, in New Albany to Melvin and Eleanor Youngblood and was the oldest of five children: Judy Clem (Ned), Jo Ann Jackson (Jay), Stuart Youngblood (Anne), and Stanley Youngblood (Margie). After graduating from New Albany High School in 1961, Bob earned a bachelor's degree in English (1966) and a master's in education (1971) at Indiana University.
Bob taught AP English at Floyd Central High School for 35 years where he was loved and respected as he brought the love of literature to thousands of lives. Bob was also an adjunct lecturer in English at Indiana University Southeast from 1981 to 1990. His students remember him for "his infinite wisdom and intellect" as an "outstanding educator" and an "inspiring man" who made "an amazing impact" on their lives by encouraging them and building their confidence.
Bob retired from teaching in 2003 and continued to pursue his passion for traveling and fine dining. In addition, he was a wicked bridge player at the Louisville Bridge Association and the Sellersburg Bridge Center, and he volunteered at Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany. His friends and family remember and love him for his quick wit, wry sense of humor, his facile expressiveness, and the twinkle in his eyes as he regaled them with stories of his travels and dining experiences. For those who knew Bob well, he was often humorously eccentric but an incredibly devoted and sincere friend. He will be hugely missed by his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephew and his many friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes(1119 E. Market St, New Albany), at 10:30 am on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016. Visitation will be at 10 AM Saturday Sept. 17. preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Floyd County Animal Rescue League (NAFC Animal Shelter), P.O. Box 285, New Albany, IN 47150.

Bob was not my teacher at FC but was a teacher to all that knew him! I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. What a difference he made in this world!

Robert, my beloved friend since first grade. I will always miss you and your crazy sense of humor. One memory I will never forget is the time my bicycle tire went flat in Crestview. We went into a house under construction and interrupted a poor workman taking a bathroom break. We were relentless, insisting he fix my tire. Your passing leaves an empty place in my heart.
