Dana Roy Obituary

Charlestown

Roy, Dana Michael,

Dana Michael Roy, 64, died Monday Jan. 30 at home in Charlestown, IN, after a long illness. His wife, Karen, and his daughter, Megan, were at his side.

He was born Jan. 16, 1953, to the late Michael and Alison Roy in Southern California, where he grew up and graduated from South Torrance High School in 1971. He was a passionate deep sea fisherman who was never more comfortable than when he was at sea. He attended the California Maritime Academy, and later became a marine captain for the Tidewater Shipping Co., among others.

Dana was also a talented craftsman who could build, repair and rehabilitate almost anything, and for a number of years he owned and operated "Roy's Restorations." Looking for new challenges, he moved to Louisville in in the mid-1980s where he joined the IBEW, became a master electrician and went on to become a senior electrical instructor.

Throughout his life, Dana had another passion: music making. As a teen-ager, he was part of a number of bands, and he played and wrote music for more than 40 years. After he and his wife moved to Charlestown, he opened a recording studio, "DMR Music". A guitarist, he followed the music world closely and was a member of the Louisville Blues Society.

He was a man of deep faith, and he was devoted to his family. He made and kept friends for life, and loved to surround himself with them at impromptu barbecue feasts.

He leaves his wife, Karen James Roy; his daughter, Megan Hildebrand; and his sister, Robin Roy Gress(William). He also leaves his parents-in-law, Maefiel and Frieda James; brothers-in-law, Dan James(Donna) and Steve James, and a sister-in law, LaDon Schneider.

Dana has chosen cremation and a memorial will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 11am- 1pm at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana with a service to follow.

Dana Roy. my friend, my partner. For over 40 plus years of friendship. I already feel the void of his passing. I miss his humor, his laugh, his articulation on everything he did. I have more stories than space on this page. That being said, I know the happiest and most joyful times in his life was with his wife Karen and their daughter Megan. I feel like I know you all through my conversations with Dana. I know all of his musician friends partners will feel a lost chord, as I do. Love you man.
