Al was an incredible influence on my life. He inspired my creativity and push me to explore stories and life outside my experience. He was in my thoughts today and I’m saddened to discover I was not able to say thank you personally.

Just discovered this sad news...My condolences to all of his family and friends.

Mr. Wiggins was indeed an extraordinary professor at Western Carolina University, giving many opportunities to his students, as he shared his wisdom and advice...I was a better student because of him.
More importantly, his friendship will always be cherished.

Thank you, Tim, for reminding me of one of my favorite Mr. Wiggins' quotes...
"Tell the truth and shame the devil!"

Rest in peace dear friend.

Al, used to sing with the Jazz Band at WCU about 30 years ago. He was terrific. He was inspiring and he was a positive influence to those of us less talented. What a powerful effect he had on the people around him. All this time later, I remember him well and fondly. RIP. Christ was there to greet you on the other side. Be well till we meet again.

Had the pleasure of being a student in Al's Intro to Mass Communications at WCU. Such a fun class. I loved his voice and professional presence. Some of the best and funniest stories I have in college came from that class. Makes me smile just thinking about it. Thank you Al for the wonderful memories. Prayers are with the family and friends

Al Wiggins was my mentor and more. I loved him for the world he made me embrace and the me he made me recognize. I would have never walked into a college or stayed if he hadn't told me I could or that I better. I didn't know he was no longer on this earth but he will always be in my heart. I will never forget you my friend and i will always hear your voice saying, "Keep looking up T."

I lived on SouthWestern Pkwy and grew up several doors from the Wiggins family. Alfred and I were in the Central High School class of '55 and shared a unique relationship with an extraordinary black community of family and childhood friends. We played tennis at Chickasaw Park, ice skated on the lagoon, and sat on the flood-wall sharing dreams. This was our special corner of the world. Though I hadn't seen Alfred in many years, I recall his genius and gift of writing and know of his many accomplishments to include his play, Chickasaw. May he rest in peace. Dr. Bettye Foster Baker

Mr. Wiggins was a role model, and much more importantly, a father figure to countless students at WCU. Every African American male who crossed his path there was positively marked by his presence. "Homeward", you will be missed, but never forgotten. We love you much!

What an honor it is to have learned and worked in theater beside such a talented and studious mentor. You have always been in my thoughts and I will never forget you or our time together. It's most deserving for you to rest in peace as your work here was timely, unforgettable, and great.

To those he's ascended from, bless you. He was truly a gem.
