Lt. Col Arthur M. Burton Obituary
BURTON, RETIRED USAF LT. COL ARTHUR M., of Petersburg, VA, passed away on his 94th birthday, Thursday, June 27, 2013. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by loving and devoted family and the dedicated and caring staff at Kindred Hospital in Louisville, KY. Colonel Burton was born and raised in Sheridan Co., Indiana. After studies at Butler University, he joined the Army Air Corps in 1941. He served as an aviator and bombardier pilot trainer during World War II. While in the military, Colonel Burton graduated from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor's Degree in Military Science and Electronics. He earned a Master's Degree in International Economics from the University of Kentucky. Prior to his retirement he was Assistant Professor of Air Science at the University of Kentucky. His military career spanned 24 years.

After his retirement from the military, he moved his family to Petersburg, VA, and worked as a corporate pilot and Sales Manager for the Titmus Optical Co. He and his wife later founded Brickwood Day Care, which served the Petersburg community for 35 years. He was a long standing member of St. Joseph parish. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Darline McNulty Burton, and son Gregory Burton (Susan). He is survived by three sons, James Burton (Linda) of Colonial Heights, VA, Arthur Burton Jr. (Carolyn) of Louisville, KY, and Michael Burton (Lisa) of Hickory, N.C.; and five daughters, Elizabeth Holmes of Denver, CO, Joyce Jelinek (William)of Denver, CO, Deborah Linhorst (Ronald) of Louisville, KY, Mary Lavin (Brian) of Louisville, KY, and Bridget Cuthbert (Nathaniel) of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by 39 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

His family wishes to thank the caring people of Kindred Hospital, Louisville, KY. The entire staff has become an extension of his family: the excellent physicians, the dedicated nursing and respiratory staff and all of administration and support personnel. Words cannot express their deep appreciation.

All services will be at held at St. Anthony's Chapel at Kindred Hospital, 1313 St. Anthony Place. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Visitation will be on Monday from 6-9 p.m. and on the day of the funeral starting at 6:30 a.m. Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, "In St. Matthews" was entrusted with arrangements.
