BELL, ANN DIEHL, 86, of Louisville, died Monday, April 29, 2013.

She was the daughter of German immigrants, Albert Gotlob Diehl and Hedwig Frey Diehl. Ann was a graduate of Louisville Girls High School, and in 1948 married Chester A. "Chet" Bell, Jr., and spent the next 63 years at his side.

She was an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Assumption Council Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary. Ann was best known for volunteering to help anywhere and in any way she could and always offering hospitality that was second to none. She loved to keep busy, play cards and bingo, make trips to "the boat", travel, and work puzzles. Ann enjoyed life, never met a stranger, and valued faith, friendship and family.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

She is survived by her sons, C. A. "Chet" Bell, III (Martha) and Steven A. Bell (Vickie); daughter, Sheila B. Stocksdale (Chuck); grandchildren, Shawn, Melissa, Michael, Stacy, Carrie, Christine, Jessica, Felicia, Rose, Catherine, Graham and Aaron; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; her brother, Herbert A. Diehl; a sister-in-law, Nora "Nobie" L. Gies; a brother-in-law, James A. Bell (Joan); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family extends their gratitude to the many friends and extended family members who visited and cared for Ann in the last months of her life and to the staff of Signature Healthcare at Cherokee Park, particularly her night nurse, Sabrina, who was always willing to assist Ann and her family, even when off duty.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 7500 Tangelo Drive, with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Thursday at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy and memorial gifts may be made to her church or Mercy Academy.
