LESMEISTER, CURTIS E. "CURT," 87, of Louisville, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Hosparus Inpatient Unit with his loving family by his side.
The Guest Book is expired.
Curt was born June 26, 1926 in Louisville, KY. He was the only son of Rome and Margaret Lesmeister. A 1944 graduate of St. Xavier High School, he received his Accounting Degree from the University of Louisville in 1950. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in both World War II and the Korean War, and had 38 years service in the U. S. Army Reserves with a rank of Chief Warrant Officer IV. He was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he was a booster club member and usher for many years.
Curt worked for Catholic Digest and retired after 28 years of service with the Quality School Plan Division of Readers Digest, having worked with various schools around the tri-state area raising funds for school building and curriculum expansion programs and class trips. To many, he was affectionately known as the "Magazine Man" or "Candy Man".
Curt was a member of VFW Post 201, a Kentucky Colonel and an avid card player and horse racing fan. Having married on Derby Day 1951, his wife Mil thought herself lucky he actually showed up for the wedding! Preceding him in death was his son, Richard Curtis; his parents, Ralph Roma and Margaret Lesmeister; and his sister, Doris Reeves.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 62 years, Amildia (Mil) Andy Lesmeister; his son, Stephen Lesmeister (Kathy); daughter, Nancy Lesmeister; grandsons, Craig and Eric Lesmeister and nephews Doug and Donald Reeves, all of whom he loved very much. He was incredibly blessed to have a handful of very close friendships that spanned 65 years or more.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3521 Goldsmith Lane, with a private burial for the family to follow the Mass. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or Hosparus of Louisville, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Drive, Louisville, KY 40205.
