MERRILL, DOUGLAS LEE, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday December 9, 2012.
Doug was born March 21, 1931 in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Frank and Catherine Merrill.
He graduated from Michigan State University in 1953 and served his country in the U.S. Army and was veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Doug has been a Kentuckian since the 1960's, a self-employed manufacturer's representative, a farmer in Larue County Kentucky, and a member of Southeast Christian Church, where he served in the New Member Ministry and Faces of Christ. Doug's love, encouragement, and welcoming smile will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Jane Denny Merrill; son, R. Tod Merrill; daughters, Diane Joest (Steve), Sharon Boyd (Dennis) and Janet Polsgrove; stepsons, Cedric F. Denny, III (Becky) and Charles P. Denny (Donna); grandchildren, Sally Merrill, Kevin Joest, Becca Joest, Sara Boyd, Nathan Boyd, Jason Polsgrove and Jenna Polsgrove; step grandchildren, Clayton E. Denny, Chelsea Glasscock (Greg) and Dr. Joshua Denny (Carolyn); step great-grandchildren, Noah, Aaron and Isaac Denny; sister Dana Burge (Jim); brother, Dean Merrill (Sylvia). Doug is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
A celebration of Doug's Life will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be private in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, IN.
