Dwight Stamper Obituary

STAMPER, DWIGHT W., 66, with his loving family by his side, passed away Monday, April 11, 2011 from injuries sustained in a traffic accident on March 6, 2011.

He was a bicycling enthusiast, an avid gardener, gourmet cook and supporter of the Louisville Arts. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the German American Club and numerous bicycle clubs.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marlym Stamper.

He is survived by his parents, Sheldon and Martha Stamper; his children, Kim Ryan (Steve), Shawn Stamper and Chris Stamper; a sister, Sharon Kleinert (Harold); grandchildren, Nicki Schulte, Justin Schulte (Samantha), Caitlin Ryan, Patrick Ryan, James Stamper and Dallas Browning; a great-granddaughter, Jordan Schulte; his love, Pat Goodman; the mother of his children, Doris Stamper; and his nieces, Elizabeth Greer (Sonny), Shelly Age and Louisa Kleinert.

His funeral is 1 p.m. Thursday at Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with burial in Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial gifts can be made to the Fund for the Arts.

I am Pat Goodman's niece.

I am thankful to have been able to spend some time with Dwight over the past few months.

This is a funny story: my husband and our two daughters were over at Pat's house right after Christmas, and we were trying to decide what to order for pizza. And then I thought Dwight was just joking when he suggested we get anchovies on one of them. --- : )

I also really appreciated being offered and being able to use some tickets Dwight had. One set was for the Louisville Orchestra 'OrKIDSstra' concert, that I went to with Madeleine, my five year old.

The other set was for the Louisville Ballet last Friday, and it was the first time Madeleine and I have ever gone to a ballet. We loved it!!!

I always admired Dwight for his stamina and endurance in keeping in such good shape from cycling all the time, and for going on those long cycling trips.

Lastly, I remember how much I liked his little grape arbor as a child. Looking up through the vines on the trellis...
